November RBAC Meeting Summary

The Regional Bicycle Advisory Committee meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. To help share what the RBAC is working on, we will be sharing the agenda before the meeting and following up with a meeting summary after the meeting.

Bike Plan Adoption: Bob Stoehr, the RBAC chair gave a recap of the CDTC Governing Board meeting. The 2018 Wenatchee Valley Bicycle Master Plan was presented to the CDTC board by Bob and CDTC staff in September.

The bike plan was adopted October 11, 2018.

Foothills Middle School 6th Grade Camp Bike Activities: Foothills Middle School in Wenatchee was recently awarded a bicycle fleet, trailer and curriculum training from the state Safe Routes to School program. RBAC member and Foothills teacher, Todd Jensen, organized a bicycle education session at the Foothills 6th grade camp this September at Tall Timbers camp. A couple hundred students and parent volunteers practiced their biking skills and a few learned to ride a bike for the first time. RBAC members volunteered their time to help run the station.

2019 Work Plan

The group reviewed accomplishments from 2018 and spent time discussing ideas for future projects. The RBAC is responsible for assisting local transportation agencies with bicycle planning issues and supporting implementation of the bike plan. You can see a list of all the action items identified in the Bicycle Master Plan update here.

  • 2018 Wenatchee Valley Bicycle Master Plan and wayfinding plan adopted

  • Work began on bike parking- RBAC discussed local ordinances and started an inventory

  • The RBAC worked with CDTC to reapply to the League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community program. We received a bronze designation in 2014 and we will hear this month whether we remain a bronze or improve our status (honorable mention, bronze, silver, gold, platinum)

  • The cities, counties and WSDOT have a long list of bicycle and pedestrian projects completed, in planning or ready for construction

Ideas for 2019:

  • Assist CDTC in the update of Transportation 2040 - the regional transportation plan for Chelan and Douglas Counties

  • If we receive a grant CDTC applied for this fall, work on a regional bike share feasibility study

  • Continue work on the wayfinding plan

  • Finish the bike parking inventory and make recommendations for improving bike parking in the region

  • Continue discussing local bicycle planning projects and acting as a resource for local agencies

  • Advise WSDOT and support the development of a U.S. Bike Route through the region
