Agency staff from CDTC, Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Cashmere and Douglas County shared project updates with the RBAC. Mike and Bob gave organization updates on Goathead Warriors and Evergreen MTB Alliance.

Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council - Nicole Campbell

  • The new planner replacing David Fletcher started this month. His name is Riley Shewak.

  • The US 2 Study is collecting public comments online.

  • John Pope, WA Bikes Volunteer, attended a TAC meeting earlier this summer to share info about the U.S. Bike Route System and the two routes planned through our region.

  • Nicole attended the last TREAD ex-officio meeting and passed around the Outdoor Recreation Economic Impact Brochure.

Wenatchee - Gary Owen

  • Chipseal projects are starting this month. Western Avenue will have bike lanes the entire corridor when the project is complete.

  • Spokane Street project is done, but waiting for the Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) to be delivered and installed.

  • The City has formally received their notice that First Street is funded by the WSDOT bike/ped grant.

East Wenatchee - Tom Wachholder

  • The Gateway Plaza is complete

  • 5th Street NE received two Safe Routes to School grants to improve safety for biking and walking in the corridor. It includes bike lanes and mini roundabouts.

  • There is a roundabout planned at 3rd St SE and Highline Drive and outreach will begin soon.

  • Valley Mall Parkway and 9th Street will be getting signals, the roundabout is no longer feasible for the project.

Douglas County - Jennifer Lange

  • 35th street paving is complete but the road is still closed for striping work (Cascade to Empire)

  • Grant Road will have an overlay maintenance project this Aug-Sept.

  • 4th St SE safety project still in progress

Cashmere - Steve Croci

  • Sunset Highway will have a chipseal, restriping project this summer. Bike lanes will stay the same when the project is complete.

  • There have been challenges upgrading to LED lights. The lights have been on and off since they were upgraded due to electrical issues.

  • The City is looking at what to do with property around the old wastewater treatment plant. It is currently open to biking and walking and the city would like to look at connecting it with a bridge over the Wenatchee River. We will explore this topic in more detail at a later meeting.

Goathead Warriors - Mike Sorensen

  • Volunteers have been out working to remove goatheads. The Rocky Reach Trail had 12 volunteers out for 8 hours cleaning up goatheads earlier this month. Volunteer info here.

Evergreen MTB Alliance - Bob Stoehr

Bike Parking

The discussion focused on reviewing two products we have been working on. First, a handout for businesses with bike parking information. Nicole and Mark have some content created. Chad at CDTC will be creating a brochure for this group to review and edit.

Second, we reviewed a draft bike parking plan. Edits and comments are welcome. We will try to finalize over the next couple meetings.

There is a also a grant opportunity right now that the group decided to pursue. The North Central Accountable Communities for Health has a Community Initiatives grant open right now for any projects that improve health in the region. A small group of RBAC members will meet later this month to generate ideas and develop a proposal to share at the August meeting.

Next Meeting

The August meeting will be on Wednesday, August 7th. Visit the RBAC page for details.
